Note 1:
Because the recessive red gene and the wild type allele in Angus Cattle can produce the same color results, the MAA has simplified the color code to be RGC for red gene carrier and RED for red coated animals. Breeders wanting more information may refer to the DNA Report

The Midline Angus Breeding Methodology and Definitions

Heritage Midline Angus:
Are developed from Lowline Angus that are bred with the original Heritage Angus (Native Origin Angus) descended from the original Scottish Lines and/or closed herds, not having any post 1968 American Angus influence outside of their herd or DNA verified descendants of Vintage Sires born in the year 1968 or earlier. Each parent is given a generation score value based on the fact that it is first a full blood Angus descended from the lines as previously described, then the score is increased with each successive generation with emphasis placed on the combined lineage of Lowline Angus cattle and the Heritage Angus cattle. The progeny is given a generation value equal to twice that of the parent with the lowest generation value. The progeny of Lowline Angus and Heritage Angus will be maintained for the integrity of genetic record and so named Heritage Midline Angus. Heritage Midline Angus implies a historic unaltered lineage, considered unbroken from the earliest Scottish lines until pre1968 American Angus. Refer to the Midline Angus Breeding Chart shown above.

Midline Angus:
The Midline Angus are developed in exactly the same manner as the Heritage Midline Angus except that the lineage may use modern day Angus lines in the breeding program.

List of Terms and Definitions:

HML2, HML4, etc.: References the generation score value for Heritage Midline Angus with HML8 being the highest score attainable. Refer to the Midline Angus Breeding Chart.

ML2, ML4, etc.: References the generation score value for Midline Angus with ML8 being the highest score attainable. This value will be indicated on the certification. Refer to the Midline Angus Breeding Chart.

Heritage Angus: As described in the Breed Attribute and Standards Schedule B, Rule 4 (a) and (b).

Lowline Angus: As described in the Breed Attribute and Standards Schedule B, Rule 4.

Approved Sires: Full blood Lowline, Heritage Angus, Modern Day Angus (black or red), Heritage Midline HML2 through HML8 and Midline ML2 through ML8.

Approved Damns: All full blood registered Angus cows are allowed.
